This Jewish Heritage Tour location centered on the site of Golden Rose Synagogue, the oldest synagogue in Ukraine, situated in the traditional Jewish Quarter close to the Old City Wall.
The song “Makh tsi di eygelekh‘” (Close your eyes) was written by Isaiah Shpigl, a writer-poet-essayist-teacher who survived the Łódź ghetto and Auschwitz (1906-1990) and by the composer-conductor Dovid Beyglman (1887-1944). This recording was made in 1946 and performed by singer Ella Diament.
