Where are we going?
On our Carpathian Mountains Day Trip tour, we are headed for a place in Western Ukraine that is truly extraordinary – the Ukrainian Carpathian Mountains, also known as the Eastern Beskids – a place where you can feed your desire for adventure and lavish your senses while exploring medieval sites, natural monuments, and the soaring vistas of the Skole Region.

Where do we start?
Our first stop on our Carpathian Mountains Day Trip is the village of Urych and legendary rock formations at Tustan. Tustan was an Old Rus cliff-side fortress-city dating from the 9th through 16th centuries, located in the Ukrainian Carpathians (Eastern Beskids), in the Skole district of the Lviv oblast.
The name “Tustan”, of Old Slavonic origins, is a compound noun made of two parts: “Tu” + “Stan” which can be interpreted to mean “stand here”.
Watch our Tustan Fortress video for a short overview to see what you’re missing.

Chairlift to the Top of the World.
Next it is on to Volosyanka village and the Zakhar Berkut ski resort where we’ll hop on board its chair lift – the longest in Ukraine – that offers you a scenic ride to the summit of Vysokyi Verkh mountain at 4074 feet (1242 m) featuring picturesque views of the surrounding forests so remember to bring your camera or mobile phone. The restaurant at the summit features a variety of refreshments to go along with the glorious views of the valley below.

A Folk Hero’s Hideout.
Then we’ll set off to the site of Pysana Krynytsia spring, the source of the Kamianka Waterfall, which local legends associate with Oleska Dovbush, a folk hero immortalized as the Carpathian “Robin Hood” in works by such writers as Ivan Franko.
Finally, we’ll descend to the Kamianka waterfall located in the Dubyna National Park for a short walk and take a respite for both refreshments and some photo “ops” then board the van for the ride back to Lviv.
Don’t forget to check out our tours of Kolomyya, Yaremche, and Chernivtsi as well!
